Brief History

Coffee originally came about as an herbal remedy or medicine, but recently has been scrutinized by many medical doctors. This suspicion of whether coffee is good for you or whether it causes health problems has been a hot topic around the popularity of coffee.

Many believe the reason coffee has gotten so much attention, is because of its growing popularity. Also, since it has no real nutritional value coffee may get more attention than that lesser consumed goods.

Rest assured though coffee drinkers, for now you can keep your daily coffee. Over the last 25 years doctors have studied moderate caffeine intake from coffee, and have yet to prove any medical connection between caffeine and health problems. Of course this study was done using moderate caffeine use. For now coffee is far away from being labeled as harmful for your health, and if anything have some positive impacts if consumed in moderation.

Filter vs. Espresso Coffee Machines

The two most common types of coffee machines are the filter and espresso machine. When brewing coffee with a traditional filter machine, the coffee tends to be lighter, and therefore more is needed for a serving. While with an espresso machine the coffee is more potent and usually served in a smaller serving.

With most filter coffee machines the work is done for you. The ease of this machine is what makes it one of the more popular ways to make coffee, and a staple in most homes. There are higher end filter machines that take it a step further and have a coffee grinder attached to it. This helps in keeping the coffee as fresh as possible, and eliminating wasteful grinding. The general process of a filter machine is the passing of water through the filter where the grinds are stored. This is then dripped into the pot where the liquid coffee is ready to drink.
