Burr Coffee Grinders

Burr Coffee Grinders
Burr Coffee Grinders originated from Burr Mills, which are known for their two revolving abrasive wheels. These wheels are also known as conical grinding wheels that crush the coffee beans with minimal friction or heat. This squeezing process or crushing of coffee beans releases the oils. Once hot water is introduced and pushed through the fresh grounds, there is a rich and smooth taste. It is presumed that this method of burr grinding is the cause for such wonderful flavors.

These grinders are found in both electrical and manual grinders. The distance of separation between the two abrasive surfaces has a noticable effect on the coffee grounds. Finer grinds tend to pass more particles that can clog the filter and have a very distinct taste from thicker grounds.

With a wide variety of settings, these grinders offer many different options for coffee lovers. Suitable for espresso, drip, percolators, French Presses and others, burr machines are have made their mark. There are often two types of grinders found: Conical burr grinders and disk burr grinders. Conical burr grinders have steel burrs, which rotate slower to cut down on heat and preserve the aromas. Because of their build, they grinder evenly, are quiter and least probable to clog (compared to others). Disk type burrs rotate faster, which means they have a warmer grind. They are typically less expensive and ideal for smaller brews. Learn more about Blade Coffee Grinders.
